The Saturday before Christmas has to be the busiest shopping day of the year, not food shopping, no that pleasure is yet to come! Today it’s present shopping that will fill most of our time.
Shops rarely visited throughout the year will be packed with disgruntled customers picking presents they think relatives want. Certain toys will be the must for Christmas. Perfume chocolates and lingerie will all brought in heaps buy husbands lovers and boyfriends all desperate to get something for that special woman in their lives. ( if you’re a bit bored today try hanging out in the lingerie department and take sharp intakes of breath whenever a man picks up a flimsy thing that clearly wouldn’t keep their partners them warm in bed and aren’t all that comfortable! )
one thing is for sure, whatever we buy their will be an air of disappointment by the queens speech on Christmas day when the toy turns out to be expensive tat, the clothes won’t fit and perfume makes you smell like …… well awful.
Still regardless of the state of the economy we will all over spend and over eat, forgetting that this is supposed to be a religious festival celebrated three or four days after winter solstice (which it was meant to replace) and several months after Jesus is thought to have been born. …..and still the food shopping to go!
